Q&A
Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Guatemala, a Central American country approximately the size of Tennessee. I travel there every year with my wife and children and our visit usually includes many of my favorite memories growing up: road trips on highways that make the scariest Disney roller coaster seem tame, bustling textile and food markets that will test the acumen of any great negotiator, lively music in every street corner, volcano views across the horizon, warm tortillas with every meal, and the best morning coffee (Guatemala’s #1 export).
What is your favorite of the four seasons and why?
Having grown up in a tropical climate my answer surprises even me, but my favorite season is winter. I look forward to eating large quantities of comfort food, the excitement at my house around the elusive school snow day, chairlift conversations with my children once they have nowhere to hide, après ski (with tequila), no mosquitos, and hiding my poor ironing skills under multiple layers of clothing!
What is your favorite sports team?
The Texas Longhorns football team. I graduated from The University of Texas and learned several valuable life lessons during my time in Austin including: (1) no closet is complete until you own several burnt orange clothing options; and (2) if you cannot name every head football coach since the program started in 1893 or name your pet Bevo then at least be prepared to throw your Hook 'Em Horns in public!
