Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Grimstad, a small town on the southern coast of Norway. It’s a harbor city that dates back to the 16th century. It was a great place to grow up, with lots of time spent outdoors. When I moved to Boston in 2004, it felt wonderfully big and exciting compared to Grimstad, with its 20k people and single set of traffic lights. Fun fact; my hometown has substantially milder winters than Boston. It’s dark in the winter though. Real dark.

If you could spend a month in any city, where would you go?

I would probably head to Madrid. I love the culinary scene, the world-class museums, parks and lively social life. The warm Mediterranean climate also makes it a nice getaway option when you are based in Boston.

Which attributes do you admire most in an executive?

I admire executives that can move effectively “up and down the ladder” – being able to go from strategic thinking to the right level of tactical and execution details required to successfully implement strategies. The older I get, the more I also appreciate the power of leading by example when it comes to resilience and adaptability. The strength to navigate challenges, recover from setbacks, and adapt to changing conditions and environments – such as running a much bigger business.
