With an expanded product offering across the whole home, Wayfair makes it easier for consumers to discover and shop products from Black makers and designers
At Wayfair, we believe change starts at home - and that includes how we partner with our suppliers to create a more equitable platform for Home.
Today, we are pleased to share the launch of Celebrate Black Makers, our commitment to recognize, uplift and celebrate Black-owned businesses and their products at Wayfair. With Celebrate Black Makers, we have expanded our offering of home products from Black-owned businesses and made it easier for our customers to shop these products at Wayfair. Customers can now shop our curated selection through a dedicated landing page, a “Black-Owned or Designed” search filter, and an identifiable badge featured on applicable product description pages.
“Through Celebrate Black Makers, we hope our diverse customer base will have the opportunity to shop everyday products for their homes made by Black designers and makers, while also exploring the many unique styles and design aesthetics available to them on our platform,” noted Shardé Marchewski, Wayfair’s head of Supplier Diversity. “It is more than fitting that we launch this program at the start of Black History Month, where we honor the struggles and accomplishments of African Americans who came before us, paving the way for generations to come.”
At the heart of this offering is our suppliers. Through the launch of Celebrate Black Makers, we established Supplier Diversity @ Wayfair, a program designed in partnership with traditionally underrepresented suppliers to support them through dedicated resources that are tailored to their businesses. Our Black suppliers, in particular, represent those who have steadfastly pursued their passions despite setbacks and inequities still very much in existence today. We are fortunate to call our Black-owned suppliers our partners and are committed to working with them to grow and thrive with Wayfair. For Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason, Wayfair suppliers and founders of AphroChic, “It's very important to us that we're working with companies where we feel a strong sense of collaboration and that we can grow with — but also that we feel will speak to our customer base.”
As part of this effort, we’re also committed to uplifting the stories of our Black designers and makers through an ongoing series designed to spotlight the perspectives they bring to the home industry and engage in a cultural conversation throughout the year with our customers. We invite our community to join us today, and everyday, in learning more about Black-owned brands in the Supplier Diversity @ Wayfair program — like AphroChic, Candice Luter Art + Interiors, and CLEAN DESIGN HOME®.
“At Wayfair, we recognize that we’re one of the largest home retailers on the planet, and we’re committed to leveraging our platform to elevate underrepresented suppliers both throughout our business and across the home industry,” continued Marchewski. “Our goal is that this program will not only support our mission to help everyone, anywhere create their feeling of home, but also drive meaningful impact to these suppliers’ businesses and create additional momentum for others in our industry to further DEI in their commercial strategies.”
Celebrate Black Makers is the first of our supplier diversity initiatives and as we continue this work, we’re committed to building relationships with our supplier partners that are grounded in trust and transparency. We have and always will be open to feedback and invite you - whether you’re a customer, current or prospective supplier, or an aspiring entrepreneur - to join us as we continue to learn, grow, and embark on this journey together.
At Wayfair, we are committed to embedding diversity, equity and inclusion across all aspects of our organization. Read more about Wayfair’s commitment to DEI here.
